Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery: What to Expect
The Brazilian butt lift has become one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic plastic surgery for excellent reason. Unlike butt implants, the Brazilian butt lift uses the patient’s own natural tissues to add volume to the buttocks. Patients emerge with the plumper, shapelier contours they desire, without any foreign object having to be inserted into their bodies. Not only that, but the fat that is transferred into their buttocks is removed from another part of their bodies where it has accumulated and is unwanted. Therefore, the Brazilian butt lift is like having two treatments in one!
Although the Brazilian butt lift offers multiple benefits, it is also a relatively intensive procedure with a fairly lengthy recovery process. Dr. Patricia Berbari explains the Brazilian butt lift recovery process in detail during consultations at her Gatineau, QC plastic surgery practice so that patients know precisely what to expect before they commit to surgery. She wants her patients to be able to make the most educated, confident choices possible regarding their surgical care.

What Is Brazilian Butt Lift?
During Brazilian butt lift, fat is harvested via liposuction from an area of the body where unwanted deposits of fat have accumulated. These fat cells are then processed and purified to optimize their survival rate and ensure the patient’s safety upon transfer to the buttocks. They are then skillfully transferred to the buttocks to accentuate the appearance of the backside. In essence, patients who undergo Brazilian butt lift actually undergo two body contouring procedures: one to improve the contours of the posterior, and one to refine and tone the area of the body from which the fat cells are withdrawn.
Recovery from Brazilian Butt Lift
Because Brazilian butt lift encompasses two distinct procedures, recovery is somewhat more complicated than it might be with some other procedures. Patients should be prepared to take up to three weeks off work, though they may be cleared to return to work and social activities after two weeks. They will be unable to sit directly on their butts for at least three weeks after surgery.
Light walking will be encouraged as soon as patients are able to do so, but more strenuous activities will be off limits for at least four weeks.
Dr. Berbari will provide post-surgical instructions for both the injection site (the buttocks) and the site at which liposuction was performed. It is very important that patients follow all of these post-surgical instructions with absolute diligence to ensure proper and timely healing. It is equally important that they attend all scheduled post-operative appointments with Dr. Berbari and take all prescribed medication exactly as recommended.
