Brow Lift vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic
Facial lines and wrinkles are some of the earliest and most common signs of aging. Understandably, many patients wish to minimize these creases and restore a more youthful appearance to the facial features. With all of the cosmetic treatments that can treat facial wrinkles and the other signs of aging, it can be difficult for patients to decide which treatment is best for them.
Dr. Patricia Berbari helps our Gatineau, QC patients understand the differences between brow lift vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections temporarily paralyze the muscles responsible for facial wrinkles to give patients smoother skin. While Botox is effective for many patients, it is not always the right choice. Some patients with drooping brows and wrinkles on the forehead may be better candidates for a brow lift.
Treatment Candidates
Although BOTOX Cosmetic and a brow lift can both lift the brows and minimize the signs of wrinkles along the forehead, the procedures are different.
BOTOX Cosmetic is a good treatment option for dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle movements. For example, when facial muscles are used to make facial expressions, such as a smile, frown, or scowl, wrinkles can develop. BOTOX Cosmetic prevents the muscle movements that are responsible for dynamic wrinkles.
A brow lift can treat dynamic and static wrinkles. Static wrinkles are deep-set, and are present even when the face is at rest. A brow lift eliminates loose skin and smooths the skin above the brow line to eliminate wrinkles.
In summation, BOTOX injections are typically best for patients with minor to moderate issues, while brow lift can treat the more noticeable signs of aging.
Invasive vs. Minimally Invasive
One of the major differences between BOTOX injections and a brow lift is the complexity of treatment. BOTOX Cosmetic is a minimally invasive procedure. Each treatment consists of a series of injections. Injections target the muscles responsible for wrinkles and temporarily relaxes them. The risks of BOTOX Cosmetic are low, side effects are minimal, and recovery is fast.
Brow lift is an invasive surgical procedure that is usually performed with the patient under the effects of general anesthesia. Although the risk of brow lift complications is low under the skilled hands of Dr. Berbari, it is considered a riskier procedure than BOTOX Cosmetic. Brow lift surgery also results in more severe side effects than BOTOX Cosmetic, and will require a lengthier recovery for our Gatineau patients.
Treatment Results
Both BOTOX Cosmetic and a brow lift will result in smoother, more youthful looking skin. However, the primary difference is that brow lift results are long lasting, while BOTOX Cosmetic results last a few months. To maintain the results of BOTOX treatment, our Gatineau patients will need to schedule touch-up treatments at least twice a year, if not more frequently.
